Yay!

First of all, congrats to the Auburn Tigers* for gutting out the victory in the BCS title game in Arizona. Those guys just made more plays when it counted and deserved to win in the end. And to the Ducks from Oregon, you put up a great fight and you went toe to toe with the mighty SEC and very well could have been champs if not for a couple of fluky plays in the end of the game. The match-up itself was really exciting, yet almost surreal. There was almost 1,000 yards total offense though it seemed like either team ever made past the others 40 yrd line. There was 2 goal line stances, some big hits, and the emergence of some potential real bonafide NFL stars on the field last night on defense. Yet this was supposed to be a shoot out of the 2 highest scoring teams in the land. In the end the game itself was a blur, it was postgame that really had me thinking of today’s spoiled incredibly talented college athletes.

Well now that the first NFL weekend of playoffs is behind us (thankfully) it’s time to focus on tonight’s match-up in the BCS championship game. A tilt that has 2 of the best 4th qtr teams in all of college football, good defenses and explosive offenses going head to head. The #2 Oregon Ducks vs #1 Auburn and Heisman trophy winner Cam Newton.

But just as the caption says above…I gotta pick myself up off the mat and get ready to go 4-0 next weekend with some great 2nd round match-ups, but really Seattle, REALLY? If you have your own website and blogged that Seattle would beat the champs last Saturday send me the link and all praises with your link posted will go to you right here on our homepage!  Aside from Seattle and their 12th man in the stands, all the road teams won this past weekend. I was almost as shocked at the outcome in the Packers vs Eagles game because we all know how sports fairy tales end and I thought it would be the perfect chapter in the Vick comeback story…someone forgot to tell Dom Capers and that great young Packers defense that had Vick limping off the field in the end. Any given day any team can win so beware Pats, Steelers, Falcons, and Bears the underdogs are coming to town next weekend. Stay tuned!

After flaming out on my picks for both wild card games yesterday, I will attempt to make good on today’s match-ups in the AFC and NFC action. Both games are intriguing and really could go both ways (that’s what she said). Let’s start in the AFC…

Yeah that’s right, if you read my NFL playoff preview yesterday, you and all of the sports world know that both teams from last year’s Superbowl both lost. The Colts and The Saints were ousted abruptly from the tournament in day 1 of the NFL’s big dance. The Jets and the Seahawks advance to the next round and one of those teams had no business being there in the first place.

It’s that time of year again everyone! The NFL playoffs start today and we have some familiar faces and some not so familiar faces in this year’s tournament. All of which kicks off today with an interesting match-up between the defending Suprebowl champs and the NFC West division winner chumps.

The Saints have been quietly marching towards another run at the Lombardi trophy and are not the high potent 30 point a game juggernaut that they were last season. The Saints have been real banged up in the backfield all year and fell a field goal early in the season away from actually winning the division and having a first round bye. With Atlanta winning the NFC South, the Saints must now go on the road to the great Northwest for a first round divisional game.
