With the NFL looking real unorganized and egotistical about their lockout situation, they did fake the funk for one night and put all their differences aside for the annual start to the NFL season with the ’11 Draft. MLB wants to make the playoffs more exciting for you, the fan, so they’re proposing changing the current format to include more teams.  Their plan is to add an extra wildcard team to each league and have a single game playoff between the two wildcard teams.  So for example, last season you would have gotten an Atlanta Braves vs San Diego Padres and a New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox single elimination game.  Sounds good, right?  Well let’s dig deeper here.

As the NBA playoffs roll on, one team in particular who had high hopes entering the post season will be enjoying an early summer vacation…

The NY Knicks are the first team to bow out of this year’s postseason tournament by losing in 4 straight to the rejuvenated Boston Celtics. After being in each of the first 2 games of the series, and the Knicks having an opportunity to steal a game in Boston last week, the myopia started to grow. Even Spike Lee had on his Sunday best on Easter in the Garden looking for a “resurrection” of sorts from his hometown team. It just wasn’t in the cards. The Knicks were banged up and their floor general Chauncey Billups was no where to be found after suffering a knee injury. Amare Stoudamire was also “knicked” up with back spasms.

Bobby Knight had one of those “you got chocolate in my peanut butter” moments over the weekend, when he combined two of his favorite targets into one sweeping statement saying, “Kentucky the year before last started five players in the NCAA tournament games that had not been to class that semester.  That’s that one-and-done philosophy.”

He went on to take a direct shot at John Calipari saying, “We’ve gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that’s why I’m glad I’m not coaching. You see we’ve got a coach at Kentucky, who put two schools on probation and he’s still coaching. I really don’t understand that.”

You would expect to hear those unconvincing words coming from someone in a sticky situation who was feeling pressured into doing something. Oh I don’t know like a crackhouse or right before a bank robbery maybe? Or jumping out of an airplane without a parachute perhaps. It’s ironic that those words were uttered by someone, who has probably been in at least one of the mentioned situations, while he stood on 3rd base and watched a routine pop up in foul territory. Yes, I am talking about ex drug addict and reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton…now no one knows more than Josh Hamilton what this immense pressure feels like and I commend him for overcoming all the demons cast upon him in his life. The way I look at it he has probably had 100 of the “I knew something bad was going to happen” moments in his life and apparently feels like he can blame it on the temptation, influences, or in this case his 3rd base coach.
